People who research AI have different views on this question. Some think that we will have AI with human level intelligence in 50 years, given how much computing power continues to increase. Other people think that we will never have AI that is as smart as a human (e.g., that is conscious). We can keep giving existing algorithms more data, so they ‘get smarter’ at the tasks they’re doing, but we still need to better understand how to get AI to do more complex tasks.

I think it’s unthinkable. It’s like you ask my parents 20 years ago, ‘how do you think you will communicate with your friends in another country?’ They probably wouldn’t say, ‘I will Skype them or FaceTime them’.

I think that will be a completely different world and people do things very differently. AI will enable many new things and new ways of doing things.
