There are challenges to being a researcher, which mean it isn’t for everyone. It can be difficult to find a permanent job, which means settling in an area and raising a family can be a challenge. But you get to work on and think about problems that you are really interested in, and very few people get to do that for a job. You also get to travel a lot, and meet other people doing really interesting work, so that is a plus as well.
